Enjoying coffee brewed via French Press can be a delicious and indulgent experience. Additionally, when coffee is brewed using this method, you get more flavor then when brewing through a paper filter where the flavor oils have a tendency to get trapped. Here is our recommendation on how to brew great French Press coffee:
How to French Press:
Step 1
Measure the appropriate amount of coffee beans for the press being used:
3-cup = 1/3 cup whole bean
4-cup = 1/4 cup whole bean
8-cup = 2/3 cup whole bean
Not sure what size of press you own? Use 2 tablespoons of coffee for every 8oz of water.
Step 2
Pour beans into grinder and grind coffee until is is coarsely ground. (Think of Sugar In The Raw)
Step 3
Fill with hot water from coffee brewer to the top of the press pot leaving 1/2 to 1 inch of room at the top. Stir the coffee grinds to develop the full bloom of coffee.
Step 4
Place the plunger over the press to keep the heat in, but don’t press it down yet.
Step 5
Let the coffee brew for 4 minutes! Set a timer to serve as a reminder.
Step 6
Push plunger down slowly. Too much pressure can break the glass of the press.
Step 7
Pour and serve!
NOTE: Because the used grounds remain in the drink after brewing, French pressed coffee left to stand can become bitter if left to sit for more than 15 minutes. We suggest moving coffee to an insulated decanter if it isn’t immediately served into a cup.
